Served on the destroyer USS Fullam DD-474 fire control on the ship in the South Pacific corrider. They guarded convoys carryin reinforcements and supplies as well as bombarding enemy installations. They joined in the firing which brought down the vast majority of the Japanese naval aviation as an effective element in the war. In Saipan, the joined the Iwo Jima assault, sailin to serve as screen and fire support ship during the assault.
Served in Sidi Yahia, Morocco, Africa at the Naval Communication Station and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Doug was in the naval reserves based in Milwaukee WI from 76-77, his unit served aboard the USS Milwaukee, AOR-2.
Joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was part of the Navy during the war. Went to school in Atlantic City for twenty six weeks for training in Morse Code. Served overseas in the Philippines on the LST 206 at Leyte. The Red Arrow Division from Wisconsin was fighting a land battl in ew Guinea. It was jungle warfare.…

7th Infantry Division. While serving Bob was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Bronze Service Star and the National Defense Medal.
Served in Vietnam. Joined USS Forestal; two Mediterranean cruises, three Caribbean cruises and a lot of two week training pilot exercises and refitted missle mounts.
Served on the USS Burns, a Naval Destroyer. They took part in 32 battles, it’s mission participated as an anti/submarine escort, picket ship, fighter director ship and an air craft rescue ship. From the first major carrier raid on the Wake Islands in 1943, to the final Japanese surrender in 1945, the crew participated in almost every major operation.
